Types of Termite Treatment: Methods, Effectiveness and How Long They Last

15+ years of field experience inspecting termite activity and supervising soil-barrier and drill-fill-seal work across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Checks every dosage, drill-spacing and price figure on this page against the jobs we completed in the last 12 months.
Before you compare quotes, it helps to know what you are buying. This guide explains what is termite treatment, the four main types of termite treatment used in Pakistan, and how long does termite treatment last for each method.
- Four methods: soil barrier, injection (drill-fill-seal), baiting, and wood treatment.
- Pre construction soil treatment is the cheapest protection and lasts 10+ years.
- Termite injection treatment is the standard for occupied houses and lasts 5–10 years.
- Baiting avoids drilling but needs servicing — best for imported flooring.
- Activity normally drops in 3–7 days; full colony collapse takes 4–8 weeks.
1. Soil barrier treatment (before construction)
A chemical curtain laid into the soil during construction — the cheapest and longest-lasting protection available. Applied at excavation, foundation PCC, plinth backfill and before flooring, it makes the entire footprint hostile to subterranean termites. Full procedure in pre construction termite treatment.
- 1Foundation trench bottom and sides — before the PCC is poured
- 2Plinth backfill — treated in layers as the soil is filled
- 3Under floor level — final blanket before the flooring base
- 4External plinth line — a trench around the finished wall
2. Injection treatment (existing buildings)
Termite injection treatment — drill, fill, seal — is how an occupied house is treated. Holes at 12-inch spacing along walls and floor junctions are pressure-filled with emulsion so the soil beneath the slab becomes one continuous barrier. This is the standard post construction anti termite treatment and the method used in most termite treatment islamabad jobs.
- 1Drill points every 12 inches, never spaced out to save time.
- 2Pressure filling until soil refuses more emulsion — not a poured trickle.
- 3Holes sealed with white cement and matched to the floor finish.
- 4Wooden frames and skirting injected on the same visit.
3. Baiting and monitoring
Bait stations feed termites a growth inhibitor they carry into the nest. It is slower but avoids drilling, which suits imported flooring and buildings where aesthetics rule. Baiting is usually offered as an annual termite control contract rather than a one-off treatment.
- 1Survey and station plan — stations are mapped around likely foraging routes and moisture zones
- 2Regular inspection — the provider checks for feeding and replaces material according to the system instructions
- 3Colony suppression — results depend on termites finding and continuing to feed on the bait, so patience matters
- 4Ongoing monitoring — stations do not provide a permanent barrier and only work while the programme is serviced
- 5Best-fit buildings — sites where drilling is unacceptable or long-term detection is worth the recurring cost
4. Wood treatment
Anti termite treatment for wood protects the timber itself — door frames, roof battens, cupboards and furniture — with brushed or injected preservatives. Chemistry behind each option is compared in termite treatment chemicals, and household application is covered in termite treatment at home.
5. Physical barriers and construction detailing
Physical systems use purpose-made mesh, graded particle barriers or sealed service collars to block concealed entry. They are installed during construction and require careful detailing by the designer and approved installer. Availability and suitable specifications vary in Pakistan, so we treat them as a project-specific option—not a substitute for good drainage, inspectable edges or a documented termite prevention treatment plan.
Choose by diagnosis, not by method name
- 1Building not yet floored — prioritise a documented pre-construction soil or approved physical barrier
- 2Finished home with soil tubes — investigate a subterranean route and combine soil access with local timber work
- 3Isolated activity in movable timber — identify the termite type and assess the item before treating the whole building
- 4Premium finishes cannot be drilled — compare external access, targeted injection and a maintained bait programme
- 5Activity returned after treatment — inspect for disturbed soil, missed service entries, leaks and untreated garden sources
Which method — and how long it lasts
Lasts 10 years or more when applied at every construction stage. Best fit: any house still under construction in DHA, Bahria Town or a new Islamabad sector.
- 1Cheapest per square foot of all methods.
- 2Impossible to add later without drilling floors.
- 3Needs stage-wise application, not one visit.
Lasts 5 to 10 years. Best fit: occupied homes with visible mud tubes, hollow frames or frass — the majority of our jobs.
- 1One working day for an average house.
- 2Activity drops in 3–7 days, colony collapse in 4–8 weeks.
- 3Comes with a written re-treatment warranty.
Lasts as long as the stations are serviced. Best fit: marble or imported flooring, heritage buildings, and commercial sites that want ongoing monitoring.
- 1No drilling and no disruption to finishes.
- 2Slower — months rather than weeks.
- 3Ongoing annual cost instead of a one-off fee.
Needs renewal every few years on exposed timber. Best fit: door frames, roof battens and furniture — always as a companion to soil work, never as a replacement for it.
- 1Alone it will not stop a soil colony feeding your house.
- 2Apply to bare timber for real absorption.
- 3Inject galleries before surface coating.
Why combination treatment is often stronger
One method rarely solves every route. An occupied house may need a soil treatment to intercept the colony, local anti termite treatment for woodwhere galleries are active, leak repair to remove moisture, and monitoring to confirm the result. The written plan should explain what each part does; adding more chemical without fixing the route is not integrated control.
- • Match the method to the building stage, not to the cheapest quote.
- • Combine termite injection treatment with wood treatment in occupied homes.
- • Insist on a written warranty stating the method and chemical.
- • Have the soil and plinth inspected before the method is decided.
- • Accepting a surface spray as anti termite treatment.
- • Choosing baiting for a heavy active infestation in a hurry.
- • Skipping the external plinth trench to save a few thousand rupees.
- • Digging up treated soil for new landscaping without re-treatment.
Because Islamabad's clay soils and Rawalpindi's older brick foundations behave differently, our surveyor recommends the method after inspection — see termite treatment rawalpindi for local specifics and termite treatment cost in Pakistan for pricing per method.
